The Zoltars will be releasing their full length debut in April 2012, and you can be sure I will review it. I could only find two of their songs online, but I am excited for what they will produce in the future.
“The Perfect Girl” is perfectly melancholic. If this song was played with any amount of excitement, it wouldn’t have been nearly as effective. The clean lead guitar drones through repetitious phrases as I can imagine trying to convince myself that some girl was perfect. I could be drastically misunderstanding this song, but it’s a direct statement to me about the impossibility of finding somebody absolutely perfect.
“Lost From Long Ago” begins markedly more excitingly. It’s not too dissimilar though, just enough to be another great song from an exciting new band. I wonder if they recorded this to tape. It sounds so warm and real. That lead guitar tone is incredible, especially for the appropriate lack of showiness in his playing.
The Zoltars are playing at Cheer Up Charlie’s on December 31st and Lamberts on January 28th. If I were in Austin, I would be sure to check them out at for least one of those shows. I get the idea that this is a band currently in its growing stage, and it would probably be worthwhile to see them at both shows and see how much the young band grows in one month. In any case, you should at least go tot heir Bandcamp page and check out the two tracks they’ve already made available.
