It is my hope that someone, even just a single person, who is unfamiliar with all the great things that have happened in Austin in the last decade or so would stumble upon this blog and discover one of the best bands in the history of Texas music. Sound Team isn’t a band anymore, but that’s the beauty of recording. Music made in times of great personal success for a band can be kept even after the band breaks up and enjoyed by others.
Their full length album “Movie Monster” might have gotten the worst review from Pitchfork I’ve ever seen, but other sources called praised it heavily and one source in Austin even went as far as to call 2006 the “summer of Sound Team.” Pitchfork is notorious for hating anything that other people liked first, and the hipster favorite was apparently pretty late in finding out about Sound Team.
The video for Sound Team’s planned single, “Born To Please” features lots of lo-fi stills and film, including eagles, beards, and wildlife. It’s scratchy, abstract style perfectly compliments Sound Team’s music. This is the kind of band appropriate for anything from driving to, taking showers during, or playing at parties with all your best friends.
My personal favorite songs by Sound Team are the uplifting “Empty Rooms” and the pulsing “Up From Ashes”. Every song by Sound Team is solid. They can be effectively repetitious. They can be catchy. They can generate beautiful sounds and classic tones. You should listen to Sound Team through any media available.
